Jesse was born and raised in Louisiana and is a native of Baton Rouge. Louisiana politics, along with his beloved LSU football, has been a significant influence on him practically from the time he was born. His father, Wiley, was superintendent of the Louisiana State Police from '84-'87 for the Edwards administration. Jesse’s mother, Cheryl, has been a successful lobbyist in Louisiana for nearly 30 years. Consequently, Jesse has always known he wanted to be a part of the Louisiana political landscape. Jesse is a proud graduate of Louisiana State University. He is also an alumni of University Laboratory School in Baton Rouge, where he was a standout basketball player. Just prior to attending LSU, Jesse completed a post-graduate program at Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Virginia. He went to work for Treasurer Kennedy's Administration in the investments and unclaimed property divisions while still a student at LSU. After graduation, he landed a position on staff for the Louisiana State Bond Commission. During that time he learned the capital outlay process, interacted with the elected members of the commission, and became schooled in the political process. After graduation Jesse joined a mechanical contracting firm, working in Fairhope, Alabama as an outside sales representative. This commissioned sales position further honed his communication skills as he came to understand how to take complete ownership of a project and be successful. After four years as one of the top sales producers in the mechanical contracting company, Jesse’s stepfather, Derrell Cohoon, approached Jesse about returning to Louisiana to join Derrell’s newly created firm. Jesse is now a managing partner with Capitol Partners and an invaluable part of the team. In his 10 years with Capitol Partners, Jesse has quickly stood out among other young lobbyists at the Capitol. He's run point on some of the most controversial issues at the Capitol, and has also been a member of multiple coalitions and lobbying teams on issues involving Oil & Gas, Healthcare, Education, Commerce, Transportation, Engineering, Technology and Insurance, to name a few. He prides himself on putting in the time and research to get to know who and what he is representing, fully embracing their issues. On top of being active in the legislative branch, he has also been a member of several procurement teams that have won some of the state’s most coveted contracts for his clients. His sales background has proved to be a great asset in the management of the proposal process, interacting with the issuing department, and crafting message development.
